Дати проведення: New York City from February 28 through March 1, 2020.

 

The first day of events will take place at the Graduate Center, CUNY in midtown Manhattan with

the sponsorship of the Center for the Humanities. The second day will take place at Hunter College CUNY on the Upper East Side and will examine the idea of Ukrainian music and revolution from 1917 through Maidan. The final day will take place at the Ukrainian Museum in the East Village, with a roundtable of four of our featured composers in discussion about their works and their perceptions of Ukrainian art music history. Решта все взяли на себе університети, Колумбія і Хантер Колледж, де заходи відбуватимуться. Будуть лекціі, доповіді про сучасну украінську композиторську школу, зміни в репертуарі після Майданів, відновлення української ідентичності.

 

Культурний фронт - це теж фронт за місце під сонцем.

Мета - зменшити вплив російського наративу у музикологіі пост- радянського простору.

 

Програма заходів теж на сайті, і призвища композиторів і музичні твори.

Valentyn Sylvestrov (b. 30 September 1937, Kyiv) is a composer of mostly orchestral, chamber, vocal, and piano works that have been performed throughout the world.

Sylvestrov began private studies in music at age fifteen and studied at the Stetsenko Evening Music School for Adults in Kyiv from 1953–55, where he graduated with a gold medal, then studied at the Institute of Construction Engineering in Kyiv from 1955–58. He studied composition with Boris Lyatoshinsky and counterpoint and harmony with Levko Revutsky at the P. I. Tchaikovsky National Music Academy of Ukraine in Kyiv from 1958–64.

Among his honours are the Koussevitzky Composition Prize (1967), First Prize in the competition of the Internationale Gaudeamus Muziekweek in Amsterdam (1970) and the Taras Shevchenko National Prize from the government of Ukraine (1995).

From Friday, March 5 — Sunday, March 7, 2021, the second annual Ukrainian Contemporary Music Festival will explore the role of music in contemporary Ukrainian culture and politics through lively presentations and performances under the theme “Voices Across Generations” to mark thirty years of Ukrainian independence.

 

Streamed from stages across NYC, including the Ukrainian Museum, on the Musae online platform, the Festival will provide space to both hear today’s most exciting Ukrainian new music and to contextualize its place within a broader scope of history and society. Each event held during the festival will pair thought-provoking commentary by distinguished scholars of Ukrainian history and culture with a performance of works by Ukraine’s leading living composers, surveying Ukraine’s musical triumphs during contemporary independence. The festival showcases Ukraine’s complex and unique contributions through performance and discussions that explore music’s role in contemporary culture.

 

The Ukrainian Contemporary Music Festival has adapted to current conditions by switching to an online platform for this year’s events. UCMF believes that even in uncertain times, Ukrainian music must be heard and supported, and Ukrainian performers and composers must be given the opportunity to be showcased to a wider audience. UCMF proudly plays its integral part in cultural diplomacy on behalf of Ukraine.

The Kyiv Avant-Garde

Вже вдруге сучасна українська музика лунала у Нью-Йорку на Ukrainian Contemporary Music Festival. 

 

Фестиваль популяризує внесок України до світової традиції сучасної академічної музики. У цьогорічній програмі музиканти та ансамблі зі США виконували твори молодої генерації українських композиторів, а також представили доробок митців-шістдесятників. 

 

Своїми враженнями поділилася Лія Бетстоун, креативна директорка фестивалю: 

 

‍ «Я неймовірно задоволена успіхами уже другого Фестивалю сучасної української музики. Цьогорічну подію об’єднала ідея голосів, які проходять через покоління, що було присвячено 30-й річниці Незалежності України. Я захоплена тим, як наш фестиваль ширить голоси українських композиторів крізь кордони, зібравши онлайн глядачів зі всього світу.

 

Ми ретельно спланували фестиваль. Крім музичної програми, з презентаціями виступили українські музикознавці. Таким чином, ми прагнули продемонструвати тяглість і творчий потенціал сучасної української музики. Обговорення української музики ми включили у ширшу дискусію про програмування музичних подій і розширення музичного канону, показавши, що українська музика може бути цікавою далеко за межами української спільноти.

 

Цьогорічний онлайн формат значно збільшив аудиторію фестивалю. Я з нетерпінням чекаю повернення до подій наживо, та все ж у майбутньому ми залишимо певні формати трансляцій онлайн. Ми й надалі продовжимо працювати з виконавцями сучасної музики високого рівня, щоб представити українську культуру у відомих музичних локаціях Нью-Йорка.
